Living the good life at Hidden Hill |
Our puppies are raised in our home, in our nursery / puppy room for the entire duration of their stay here at Hidden Hill before going to their new homes at 8-9+ weeks of age. I sleep in the room for the first 3 - 4 weeks to assist mom in around the clock feedings. We also, weigh our puppies 3 times per day to monitor that everyone is being well fed and thriving.
As the puppies grow, the whelping box is transitioned into a playpen equipped with potty, sleep and play area. The size of the playpen is adjusted based on the size and age of the litter. The puppies soon gain access to the entire room under supervision and eventually spend time in other parts of our home experiencing the everyday sights, sounds and smells of the household. Once of age and weather permitting, they get to explore the outdoors in our fenced backyard with our supervision. In an effort to have puppies that are well socialized, we take them on field trips when they are of an appropriate age. These trips, in the car, heading to the vet, friends houses or work, help build their confidence. After 4 weeks of age, visitors also help get the puppies accustom to new people. |
I have been involved in the breed since 2010. Our Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are beloved members of our family. We enjoy competing with them in dog shows along with challenging their working capabilities in other working events to build our bond and provide positive training and socialization. We strive to produce structurally sound, happy, healthy puppies that will become outstanding members of your family while improving the breed as a whole. As a preservation breeder, I thoughtfully analyze pedigree, temperament and test all breeding stock according to CHIC requirements for the breed. These practices contribute to not only the longevity but the quality of this magnificent breed to ensure it's existence for years to come.
